Betfred applies for Spanish licence
Operator says it will operate its Spanish licence out of Ceuta and the new base will not affect its Gibraltar operations

Betfred has applied for a Spanish licence as it plans to enter the market from its new office in Ceuta, EGR has learned.
A Betfred spokesperson said the new office was unrelated to the firm’s Gibraltar operations and its UK-facing operations would “remain in full force within Gibraltar”.
“We applied for a licence in December and once awarded we will be hosting our Spanish operations from Ceuta,” the spokesperson said.
They said it was unlikely any Gibraltar-based employees would relocate to the Spanish city, on the east coast of Morocco as 50% of the staff must be local in order to qualify for tax breaks.
“The tax regime is very favourable for the Spanish market and it will definitely complement our Gib operations,” the spokesperson said.
“If anything [the Gibraltar office] will grow too.”
The launch of the new office is dependent on when the Spanish regulator (DGOJ) issues the next round of licences.
LeoVegas, Gaming Innovation Group, Genting and Kindred also applied for Spanish licences in December.
