BetDEX granted Irish licence as part of global expansion plans

BetDEX has secured a remote betting intermediary licence in Ireland as it continues to action its global expansion strategy.
The move will give Irish players access to the BetDEX exchange and comes after the operator noted that it has overseen $1.5m in matched wagers over the past six months.
The firm became the first fully licensed sports betting exchange built on the Solana blockchain after acquiring its first licence in the Isle of Man in October.
The Edinburgh-based company was co-founded in 2019 by FanDuel co-founder Nigel Eccles and Varun Sudhakar, who also had a spell working for FanDuel between 2015 and 2018.
BetDEX CEO Sudhaka said the move will continue the advancement of web3 betting platforms around the globe while he praised Ireland’s history of being at the fore of sports betting advancements.
Sudhakar said: “As a UK-headquartered company with a local presence in Ireland, the BetDEX team is excited to enter a new but familiar territory of operation.
“Ireland has a rich history of being at the forefront of sports betting advancements, and while this licence provides Irish citizens with the opportunity to bet using our platform, it also introduces the region to the power and benefits of blockchain and web3 technologies. We’re confident this will continue to advance the adoption of web3 betting platforms across the globe.”
That sentiment was echoed by chairman Eccles, who said that the licence is proof of the company’s commitment to being on the “cutting edge” of technology.
Eccles added: “Ireland has long been a leader in innovation and adoption of new technologies.
“This licensing is a testament to the country’s commitment to staying on the cutting edge and I am proud to be able to bring the BetDEX Exchange back to my native country. On behalf of the BetDEX team we are excited to provide a superior betting experience to the people of Ireland.”
