Betclic hires former TSG director as chief data officer
Operator pounces for ex-Stars Group data head Rich Ellis as it looks to expand technology team in Bordeaux

Betclic has appointed The Stars Group’s (TSG) former data science director Rich Ellis as its new chief data officer.
Ellis, who spent seven years with TSG, will join the French operator on 11 January 2021.
He joined TSG in the summer of 2013 as a business intelligence analyst, before being promoted to head of analytics and data science in May 2017.
He left the Flutter-owned group in October of this year.
The former professional poker player will spend his time split between Betclic’s headquarters in Bordeaux and London and will report directly into CEO Nicolas Béraud.
As chief data officer, Ellis will be responsible for defining and delivering the data strategy for Betclic, as well as supporting the core business with data and analytics.
EGR understands that under Ellis’ stewardship, Betclic are looking to double the employee headcount within the data team in 2021.
Speaking to EGR, Ellis said: “Betclic has quietly been going from strength to strength over the last few years.
“It is great to be joining a company which places so much importance on data and insights. Nicolas has a great management team in place, and I look forward to building on the current success,” he added.
