Optimove World Cup Pulse: France sees 1,000% spike in total bet amount
Optimove presents the latest KPI data from its newly launched World Cup Pulse tool

You know how they say the sky is the limit? Well, that’s true for the French this World Cup, both on and off the pitch as Les Bleus eased into their second consecutive World Cup final after a 2-0 win over Morocco. Bettors in France continue to be active and display their confidence in their national team by betting ever-rising sums.
Look at the chart below, showing what we call the Eiffel Tower of the total bet amount. Note the drop during the two days preceding the quarter-final, then a massive spike on December 10, the day of the match, followed by another lull. Naturally, we expect a huge spike to correspond with their semi-final appearance, with betting for the final now expected to leap once again.
Number of bettors and bet amount change
In this global view, you can see just how unique French bettors’ behaviour is. While the quarter-finals action did translate into a spike, the global total amount change didn’t surpass 100%.
Bet distribution by type
The global average trend is steady, with a live betting/pre-match split stand at 56-44%.
But France is the story once again after peaking at 69% live betting to corresponds with their quarter-final match.
Bet amount by channel
While the global web/mobile split is 14-86%, Bulgaria shows an interesting trend, with increased web betting activity at 37%.
Weekly number of global first-time depositors
The World Cup Pulse deteced a declining change trend in new bettors, which is understandable with more and more nations eliminated.
Those still ramping up new players? Four nations in that group, Romania, Hungary, Italy, and, you guessed it, France (chart below)
Reactivation – weekly number of active customers change
Global reactiavation rates spiked closer to the beginning of the tournament and since has settled at around 40% change compared to the June 2022 baseline.
One nation stood out in reactivation, and it’s not France. It’s Poland (chart below) with a whopping 615% change in reactivation rate, compared to the June 2022 baseline.
Portugal and Brazil (chart below) still recorded a positive trend but we expect that to change with the next data update, with the pair both having been knocked out.
