Optimove iGaming Pulse January 2023: Average monthly deposit amount per player plummeting

Optimove’s World Cup Pulse provided igaming operators, and anyone interested, with unprecedented insight into player behaviour and industry benchmarks throughout the tournament. While the mega-event is over, the monthly Pulse reports persist.
Reviewing January 2023, a couple of things jumped out at us. One is sports average monthly deposit amount per player. In two words? It’s plummeting. At this time last year, this telling KPI stood at just under €500. Today, it’s down to €364, a 24% drop. While it is up 2.3% month on month, there’s still plenty of ground to make up. The decline could be attributed to continued and increasing economic uncertainty. And while players appear to be spending less, the number of deposits KPI is at a 13-month high. Spend less, play more is a motto that appears fitting for the current economic climate which impacts players’ financial confidence.
Sports KPIs
Monthly deposits
The average number of monthly deposits for sports bettors increased by 4.1% MoM and by 13.1% YoY, now standing at 10.59 monthly deposits per player.
Monthly net gaming revenue per player
There has been an increase of 7.3% MoM in average revenue per active player and 26% decrease YoY, now standing at €66.2 per player.
Average monthly deposit amount per player
The average deposit amount for sports players increased by 2.3% MoM and decreased by 24% YoY, now standing at €364.6.
Retention rates
Retention rates for sports bettors have decreased by 7.7% MoM and decreased by 4% YoY, now standing at 66.6%.
Conversion rates
Conversion rates decreased by 9% MoM and by 10% YoY, now standing at 34.8%.
Number of activity days
This month, the number of activity days decreased by 4.7% MoM and increased by 3.3% YoY, now standing at 8.8.
Mobile bet rate
Mobile bet rates decreased by 1.3% MoM and increased by 6.1% YoY, now standing at 86%.

Monthly deposits
The average number of monthly deposits for sports bettors decreased by 3.3% MoM and increased by 5% YoY, now standing at 12.68 monthly deposits per player.
Average monthly deposit amount per depositor
The average deposit amount for casino players decreased by 4.7% MoM and increased by 2.9% YoY, now standing at €361.9.
Monthly deposit per player
The average number of monthly deposits per player decreased by 3.2% MoM and increased by 4.9% YoY, now standing at 12.68 deposits per player.
Monthly revenue
The average net gaming revenue per active player decreased by 1.2% MoM and increased by 3% YoY, now standing at €97.
Conversion rate
Conversion rates increased by 2.7% MoM and by 6.7% YoY, now standing at 41.2%.
Retention rate
Retention rates decreased by 3.5% MoM and increased by 2.2% YoY, now standing at 67.8%.
Number of activity days
The number of activity days decreased by 3.6% MoM and increased by 17% YoY, now standing at 8.21.
