OGQ: A look at online gambling's business climate

The Online Gambling Quarterly analysts asked industry experts to assess the current business situation and their expectations for the next 12 months. The assessment of the future business climate (in 12 months) saw a relevant drop. The current conflicts in Eastern Europe, growing inflation and the ever-increasing regulations seem to give the estimates a considerable setback.

Current business climate – Spring 2022

The Online Gambling Quarterly analysts asked industry experts to assess the current business situation and their expectations for the next 12 months. For the current edition, they gathered the estimates and insights of 122 market insiders and experts, including many C-level executives. With regular updates, this survey and its results serve as an industry barometer for the overall online gambling industry climate.

Fifty-four percent of the surveyed experts and market insiders assess the current business climate of the online gambling industry as “satisfactory” or even “poor”. Of those surveyed, 46% of the experts consider the current climate as “good”.

From June 2020 to March 2021, we saw a continuous improvement of the business climate. But in the summer and autumn of 2021 that upward trend came to a halt, and after a relatively steady phase, we are now seeing a slow downward turn.

Future business climate – the future outlook saw a relevant drop

Regarding the future business climate (in the next 12 months), 45% of the experts surveyed believe that the industry climate will be “good”, a decrease compared to the current “good” share of 46%.

The assessment of the future business climate (in 12 months) also saw an upward trend after the first Covid-shock, a trend that also came to a halt in recent quarters. The current conflicts in Eastern Europe, growing inflation, and the ever-increasing regulations seem to give the estimates a considerable setback in Q1 2022.
