Oddschecker insights: Comparison between places offered versus overround at the PGA Championship
Data reveals the inconsistency between golf overround and extra each way places and why Spurs were the team to back last season

Oddschecker has released its data for May and has focused on the golf’s PGA Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as highlighted the month’s key data among its operators.
For golf’s so-call fifth major, oddschecker investigated the overround against the number of places operators were offering.
Unsurprisingly, those that were offering the most places had the highest overround. Boylesports went 11 places, the most available at any of the firms on oddschecker’s grid, however at nearly 190%, the Irish bookmaker had the largest overround.
At the other end of the scale, SportNation offered five places and an overround of between 140% and 145%, while BetVictor and Parimatch went six places and were around the 145% mark.
It is apparent that the “sweet spot” when it came to places, was eight with seven firms going with this, however, the consistency in the overround did not match.
Vbet and bet365 were around 150%, while offering the same number of places as Betway, which was were up around the 170% mark.
Perhaps the best value was to be found at William Hill, which advertised nine places with an overround of around 145%, the second lowest on the grid.
In terms of acquisition offers overall, bet365 led the way with its “bet £10, get £50 in free bets”, with 888 coming in second for the month and BetUK.com coming in third.
Registrations through the affiliate to operators were up 88% on May 2021, although down 22% on April of this year, possibly due to the Grand National in April.
Following the culmination of the Premier League, oddschecker has revealed the best teams to have backed in last season’s competition.
They may have just about scraped into the Champions League spots, but Spurs were the team to back in the Premier League.
If you had placed £10 on Tottenham Hotspur to win every game at oddschecker’s best odds on the grid, you would have ended the season with £181 profit.
On the flip side, Norwich finished rock bottom of the Premier League, a place that mirrored their position in oddschecker’s end of season profit table. If you had placed £10 on formerly Daniel Farke’s and latterly Dean Smith’s team, you would have lost £175.
Interestingly, Manchester United finished just outside the bottom three, with a net profit of -£92.
