
Raketech chair to step down after four years
Former William Hill and Betsson boss Ulrik Bengtsson to take on CEO role with unnamed international company as he informs affiliate of his decision to depart


Raketech chair Ulrik Bengtsson will step down from his position after accepting a full-time CEO role at an as yet unnamed, international company.
The former William Hill CEO informed the affiliate’s board that the new role will require him to stand down as chair and likewise the company’s board of directors.
However, Bengtsson has stated that he is committed to stay on the board up until 30 July to assist Raketech during the transition period.
Raketech’s nomination committee has already begun the hunt for a new board member in fill the space vacated by Bengtsson.
The Malta-based company added that that individual could also assume the role of non-executive chair.
A Raketech statement read: “The company appreciates this is an opportunity for Ulrik and thanks him for his contribution and dedication to the Raketech board since joining in May 2021.”
Bengtsson was nominated as Raketech’s chair in 2021 before being approved by shareholders at the group’s AGM in May of that year.
He replaced Christian Lundberg, who had declined to seek re-election to the post.
At the time of joining Raketech, Bengtsson was serving as William Hill CEO, having joined the operator as chief digital officer in April 2018. He stepped up to the top job in September 2019.
Speaking on his decision, Bengtsson said: “Stepping back into a full-time CEO role feels like the right professional move for me, and the opportunity I have been presented with is compelling.
“I am confident that the entire Raketech board and executive team remain dedicated to strengthening the balance sheet and shaping an exciting strategy that I expect will be unveiled to investors in the coming months.
“I firmly believe Raketech has the potential to be a key player in the global igaming ecosystem, both now and in the future, and that the company is well-positioned to generate substantial returns for all shareholders over time.”
Bengtsson also serves as the chair for City Gaming Limited and Hostelworld Group.
Hostelworld Group said Bengtsson will remain as the company’s chair and on the board until 31 October.
City Gaming, a UK-licensed land-based operator, has yet to confirm when Bengtsson will step down from his position as chair.
