GiG Media rebrands as Gentoo Media ahead of parent company split
New name harks back to the affiliate’s Rebel Penguin brand heritage as CEO hails move as a “big milestone”

Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) Media has rebranded to Gentoo Media ahead of the affiliate’s spinoff from GiG Platform and Sportsbook.
After a strategic review in 2023 that saw the company’s board decide to split the firm into two entities, GiG Media elected to undergo a rebranding process and will now operate as an entirely independent company under the name Gentoo, trademarked as Gentoo Media.
The division of the GiG business is set to be finalised in H2 of this year, though Gentoo said the rebrand and split would not alter the firm’s “unwavering commitment” to delivering growth.
The Malta-based company has reported 13 successive quarters of record revenue as well as an EBITDA-margin of 48% in Q1 2024.
Gentoo Media has also revealed the thinking behind the rebrand, with it being a reference to the firm’s former name Rebel Penguin.
Gentoo is a type of Antarctic penguin species, which, according to the firm, aligns with its company mission as they “prosper by coming together to create a team in the name of survival”.
CEO Jonas Warrer has shed light on what he hopes the rebrand represents for Gentoo, as well as some inspirations behind the move.
“The launch of our new brand is a big milestone for us in the process of separating GiG Media from Gaming Innovation Group,” Warrer remarked.
“Gentoo has been created with all our partners and employees in mind, ensuring to communicate an accurate and genuine view of ourselves, the business and what we stand for and believe in.
“The launch of Gentoo marks a new era, and we couldn’t be more excited for the future prospects of the business.”
Mikael Harstad, chairman of the board, echoed a similar sentiment as he discussed the impact the rebranding will have on value for shareholders.
He claimed: “The rebrand of GiG Media marks a pivotal moment in the separation of Gaming Innovation Group into two independent businesses and is a vital step in the process of increasing shareholder value.
“The launch of Gentoo is a testament to the organisation’s dedication in delivering superior quality and results in every aspect of the business and is setting the company off to a great start.”
Confirmation of the rebrand comes just one day after GiG confirmed it had signed a head-of terms-agreement with Titan, a SEO and content services supplier, as part of a seven-figure deal.
