Done Brothers lead GambleAware fiscal Q1 donations list with £50k contribution
Charity reveals average donation during the quarter amounted to £2,757 and there was a 9% decrease in RET collections

GambleAware has revealed it received just over £430,000 in donations and pledges for its fiscal Q1 2023 period, down slightly on the £435,643 the charity collected in the same period last year.
Of the total £430,813.59, which included £317,099.59 in research, education and treatment (RET) contributions from gambling companies, Fred and Peter Done topped the list with £50,000, which equates to around 12% of the total the charity received.
Supplier Games Global was in second spot with £35,000, while other notable donations include £25,000 from Betway, Postcode Lottery with £18,708, Star Racing at £28,916 and £10,000 from Skill On Net.
The £113,714 in non-RET donations, which is made up of uncollected winnings or dormant accounts, all came from 888, it was revealed.
There are yet to be any donations from the largest operators for the first quarter, yet GambleAware said this follows the pattern of previous years and donations are expected towards the end of the fiscal year after an assessment of their annual GGY.
The data showed the average donation during the quarter was £2,757.38, while there was a 9% fall in RET contributions compared to the same period the last fiscal year.
Until a statutory levy is put in place, operators are encouraged to donate a minimum of 0.1% of their annual Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) to GambleAware each year.
Those who generate less than £250,000 in GGY are asked to donate a minimum of £250.
GambleAware once again reiterated its stance of calling for a compulsory levy of 1%, which it “wholeheartedly supports” and was part of proposals in the government’s white paper published in April on overhauling Britain’s gambling laws.
The big four gambling operators, Flutter, Entain, bet365, and 888, have each committed to increase their GGY donations from 0.1% to 1% by 2024.
