BetMGM nets sportsbook partnership with Houston Astros
Sportsbook operator makes entry into Texan market with retail-led agreement

BetMGM has signed an agreement to become the exclusive sports betting partner of Major League Baseball (MLB) side the Houston Astros.
Under the terms of the deal, BetMGM advertising and signage will feature prominently at the Astros’ home at Minute Maid Park.
This includes a permanent outfield wall sign and rotational promotional messaging behind the home plate.
In addition to the in-stadia advertising, BetMGM and the Astros will collaborate on fan engagement-led competitions, offering chances to win a variety of VIP experiences including throwing out the first pitch, on-field access to batting practice, and VIP getaways for away games.
The duo will also team up to offer sports betting promotions for BetMGM customers in Texas.
“The Houston Astros are a monumental addition to our portfolio of strategic partnerships with professional sports teams across the US,” said BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt.
“The organization’s passionate fan base will be key to the growth of BetMGM throughout the south as we look for new ways to engage fans with unique experiences that go beyond the game,” he added.
These sentiments were echoed by Astros SVP and general counsel Giles Kibbe, who highlighted the fan engagement gains afforded by the agreement.
“We are looking forward to our partnership with BetMGM. As we continue to strive for new ways to add to the fan experience, this partnership will provide another way for the Astros to engage with our fans,” he added.
At present, sports betting is illegal in Texas, however Texas Democratic nominee Beto O’Rourke has previously suggested the Lone Star State should look to reverse this position in order to generate much-needed tax revenue from sports betting.
A bill, HB 2070, to bring sports betting to Texas faltered earlier this year due to a lack of support as the 2021 legislative session expired.
Texas is the second-most populous state in the US, behind California, with 29.2 million residents and would represent a huge market for the US gambling industry.
In April, BetMGM recruited Major League Baseball Network (MLBN) personality AJ Andrews to its roster of brand ambassadors.
Current BetMGM brand ambassadors also include NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett, NHL legend Wayne Gretzky, former NFL running back Chris Johnson, and NFL Super Bowl champion Marshawn Lynch.
