An apology to the Rank Group
On 20 January 2022 we published an article entitled “Exclusive: Rank Group whistle-blower lifts lid on potential UKGC licence breaches”. The article claimed that the migration of customers being undertaken by the Rank Group had caused – among other things – customers to be able to view other customers’ data, gamble with other players’ funds and play on other customers’ accounts and withdrawals to be sent to the wrong customers’ bank accounts and thus the company was in gambling and data protection regulatory breach. Upon further review, EGR accepts that these allegations were unsubstantiated. We have since been informed by the Rank Group that the technical issues encountered by their customers mentioned in that article did not result in any regulatory breaches. We apologise to Rank Group and to the general public for making these unsubstantiated allegations.
