Industry heavyweights invest in newly rebranded Voxbet
Matt Davey and Tom Waterhouse lead “powerhouse” group of investors as voice-technology sportsbook firm eyes international growth
Vocal-technology betting firm Voxbet has secured strategic funding from a group of international investors including Tom Waterhouse and Matt Davey.
Tom Waterhouse invested via the Waterhouse VC investment fund, while Davey has invested in the firm via Tekkorp Capital, a US-based fund which has attracted support from former Fox Bet and William Hill executives Robin Chhabra and Andy Clerkson.
Addressing his investment in the Voxbet business, Waterhouse VC chief investment officer Tom Waterhouse suggested Voxbet fits all the criteria from both an innovation and capital growth perspective.
“Voxbet’s technology immediately improves and delivers a step change in the US for international customers, so their credentials leapt off the page,” Waterhouse added.
These sentiments were echoed by Tekkorp Capital CEO Matt Davey, who highlighted his own business as a “natural habitat for transformative, high-growth igaming businesses”, such as Voxbet.
“We’ve observed Voxbet’s impressive development but have been particularly impressed with their recent strides in the field of speech recognition and natural-language processing, which afford them a material head start in this rapidly evolving industry,” Davey added.
Financing will be used to grow Voxbet internationally, as well as “supporting the rapid development of its proprietary natural-language technology, across both voice and text services” and bolstering its product roadmap over the coming 12 months.
The firm, which allows bettors to speak or type what they want from a sportsbook, rebranded from its prior Onionsack identity in November.
The rebrand coincided with the appointment of former William Hill Online MD and ex-The Stars Group (TSG) international sportsbook MD Andrew Lee as its new chairman.
Voxbet founder Jonathan Power welcomed the investment and additional expertise afforded by the firm’s newest investment partners.
“In leveraging their collective understanding and expertise, alongside an extensive network of long-standing relationships, Voxbet is instantly better-placed to strategically identify and execute on our next important steps,” Power said.
“The team’s members have been involved in some of the most defining and instructive transactions in the sector, invariably creating significant shareholder value in the process.
“Naturally, they bring invaluable advisory acumen beyond their respective investments,” the Voxbet founder added.
