
Danish gambling revenue jumps 8.5% in Q3 2021
Online casino growth continues with 17.3% annual revenue rise as self-exclusion register hits nearly 30,000 signatures


Danish gambling revenue jumped 8.5% year-on-year in Q3 as nearly all major verticals posted improved results.
According to the latest figures from the Danish Gambling Authority (DGA), licensed operators in the country posted a collective DKK1.66bn (£CONVERSION) in Q3 2021, up from the DKK1.54bn recorded in Q3 2020.
Online casino revenue leapt 17.3% from DKK560m in Q3 2020 to reach DKK657m in Q3 2021. Elsewhere, sports betting revenue increased slightly by 2.9% to DKK567m.
Land-based casinos showed significant signs of revenue improvement as they posted a 16.6% rise YoY while Covid-19 restrictions continue to ease.
In Q3 2020, land-based casinos posted DKK84m in revenue, compared to the DKK98m secured in Q3 2021.
The final major vertical, and the only one that failed to show a revenue rise, was the Danish slot market, which posted a 1.7% YoY decrease, from DKK337m to DKK331m.
By the end of Q3 2021, 29,446 Danish consumers had joined the country’s self-exclusion register ROFUS.
Of these 29,446 customers, 19,179 had elected to self-exclude themselves permanently, with the remaining 10,267 choosing to self-exclude on a temporary basis.
Out of the 29,446 people on the ROFUS register, more than 75% were male.
The DGA’s ‘Stop Spillet’ helpline to support players with potential gambling addictions and troubling behaviours received 1,597 calls during the period concerning self-exclusion.
