Superbet acquires Croatian tech firm for undisclosed sum
Deal closed this month with Axilis set to re-engineer the operator’s proprietary sports platform

Romanian sports betting operator Superbet has acquired Croatian technology firm Axilis for an undisclosed sum.
Axilis has been working with Superbet for the last 18 months, with the technology firm having overhauled the Superbet desktop and mobile front-ends.
Following the acquisition, which closed earlier this month, Axilis will be tasked with re-engineering Superbet’s proprietary sports betting platform.
Axilis will remain in Zagreb as Superbet’s technology arm, alongside the group’s trading team.
As part of the acquisition, Axilis founder Bruno Kovacic has been named Superbet CTO.

Kovacic, a former Microsoft programmer, found Axilis back in 2011, with the company now boasting around 50 engineers.
No details around price were released, but one source familiar with the deal suggested it was in the high seven-figure range, with earn-outs and equity for Kovacic.
The transaction comes after a busy period for the Romanian operator which recently secured a £150m investment from Blackstone and announced former Paddy Power Betfair exec Johnny Hartnett as its new CEO.
