Hero Gaming appoints former GIG chief as CEO
Tomas Backman joins the operator at its Malta-based operational subsidiary to lead its expansion strategy
Hero Gaming has appointed former GIG Gaming CEO Tomas Backman as its operational chief executive following the departure of Magnus Alebo in January, EGR Intel has learnt.
Backman joined the operator’s Malta subsidiary in April, taking over the role from group CEO and founder Georg Westin who stepped in during the interim.
Backman’s career background includes stints at Gaming Innovation Group’s B2C arm and Betit Group before it was acquired by GIG.
Prior to that he spent 10 months at Casumo as chief player officer and held a number of roles at Betsson between 2011 and 2013.
Westin previously told EGR he was looking for a new CEO to take the operator through the next three years to oversee expansion and growth.
“We have great plans for this year with new money and great people on the board,” he added.
Backman said: “I have been following Hero Gaming since launch and always liked that they are taking the lead when gamifying and optimising the player experience, something I have seen the power in doing in previous jobs.
“I am impressed with the technical platform that has been built and it is tailored to be able to create even better results. Now we are preparing the company for entering new regulated markets and growing the business. At the same time we will continue to create innovative products that stands out in the market.”
In January, former LeoVegas CEO, Johan Styren, joined the Hero Gaming board along with former NetEnt CEO Johan Ohman.
Former CEO Alebo joined Mr Green in April as managing director for the group’s operational subsidiary Mr Green ltd.
