WPT announcer Mike Sexton named partypoker chairman
Sexton pledges to make partypoker the “number one online poker site again”
GVC has announced the appointment of World Poker Tour (WPT) commentator Mike Sexton as chairman of its partypoker brand.
Sexton, who was one of partypoker’s founders in 2001 and a current brand ambassador, will leave his WPT role to take up the new position.
He said his main priority would be to carry out a new mission statement, yet to be outlined, which would improve the site and benefit players.
Sexton added: “I haven’t been this excited about partypoker since we put on the original partypoker MILLION in March 2002.
“Management has proven to me how dedicated they are to provide opportunities for players that are unequaled anywhere. I believe the potential growth of partypoker in the future is astronomical, and our goal is to become the number one online poker site again.
“Yes, it’s a lofty goal, but it’s ‘doable’. If we can achieve our Mission Statement, I believe players will appreciate, respect, support, and be loyal to us.”
Partypoker last week unveiled a new rewards scheme that appeared to cater to the more professional end of the player spectrum, with rakeback directly related to levels of play.
MD Tom Waters added: “I am absolutely delighted that Mike has decided to come on board as our chairman. We are all dedicated to make partypoker the site for the players and having his support to make this happen gets us one step closer.”
Sexton was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2009 and is a WSOP bracelet winner and WPT Champion.
