FanDuel adds soccer to US offering
Operator adds first new sport in three years off back of UK launch
FanDuel has expanded its product offering to include soccer for the first time in the US.
Contests on the English Premier League will be added to the site later this month, making soccer the fifth sport offered by the operator.
Previously FanDuel has stuck to the core North American sports of football, baseball, basketball and hockey in the US.
The new game will be based on the same platform as the soccer product offered by FanDuel in Europe, but with several tweaks to make the format more recognizable to American consumers.
Firstly there will be eight players per team rather than the 11 in the UK, and salary cap is set at $60,000 rather than £100,000. The line-ups will also be fixed after first kick off.
âOur ultimate goal is for fans of all sports to experience what FanDuel has to offer,â said Nigel Eccles, CEO of FanDuel.
âAs we continue to enhance our core product, we look forward to giving the millions of US soccer fans access to the same game day excitement that bring other sports fans to our platform.â
It is the first new sport FanDuel has offered in three years, as it has been content to let DraftKings have smaller sports to itself, including golf, MMA and eSports.
